About the materials
The ideas for the first two grades are completed in form of a book containing 33 lessons. The text in the book is meant as a guide for a teacher, not as a textbook for children. Each book is accompanied by a diskette with programs, which are used in the book. These lessons were used several times and therefore are proved to be useful.
The activities introduce the pupils to computers. At the beginning they use the computer as a tool, later gradually they try to program the computer. The programming tool is Comenius Logo. Also lessons without computers are used. These lessons concentrate on mathematical games and other similar activities, which help to develop algorithmic thinking.
The ideas for the third and fourth grade concentrate on the programming (as the classes are split to those who want to know more about programming and to those who want to become qualified computer users. They are not yet completed to form a book, but they are prepared in quite big detail and most of them were tried out at least once.
Some activities are prepared in the same form as the ones for the first
two grades (i.e. as teacher materials.), but some others are prepared as
a guide to pupils how to implement a particular program. Some of
them are just written as a plain text, but others are hypertext documents
using the Windows HLP file format. This form of specialized Help files,
which can be used by the pupils during implementing the programs were proven
to be very useful. Each pupil can find the hints himself at the time when
he needs them or he can even not read some pages, if he does not need those
hints.
